The locals call them baracudas, large predatory tetra, easily caught on hook and line, I brought back two small ones.

There are plenty of gymnogeos floating around in Socal. If you look hard enough, you'll find some. ;)

I just spent 12 days in Uruguay. Gymnogeophagus labiatus "Centureon"
 
How tough is it bringing the fish back?

My wife is from Paraguay and we are planning on visiting there in the next year or so and Id LOVE to bring some fish back. Send me a PM when you get the chance.
