US Vendor Getting Trops In ~

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
xander, i would guess that if your theory were the case the price would be even higher...just doesn't make sense in most cases, but if they were just ordering in a small group of fish it is possible. secondly, in response to Ryan's comment on minimum farm orders, yes, they set them high, but it's happened several times that we have made orders much smaller than their advertised minimum order (at least 3 of the USA TPG orders have fallen into this category), so i no longer consider that a true limiting factor (just really depends on how people communicate/work with the farm and what people on their end are willing to do).--

Huh, that's interesting. Do you know if they charge a higher price per gar if the order is smaller than their advertised minimum? That would make the current scenario seem a bit more logical, right?

^ no, gars cost the same. shipping kills when dealing with smaller numbers though.

Sol, would the prices really be much higher? i know that other lfs in sgp are getting the trops from taiwan but selling prices are still ~100usd for 12"

to add on, i guess none of it really matters, but it is quite fun to speculate:)

Well here are my two kopeks worth...
They are the only ones to have imported them for sometime.. They can price them whatever they want. That is their right to do .. Like or no Like..

However it Seems poor business to really raise the price to much though or bring them in if you have to sell them this high. There is not really a ready market for these anymore and moving them at a high price will be tough to do. Those of us willing to spend that much have already done so with the first group we brought in way back when.. This price is just to high to justify the cost of the product now.

Market generally will carry the price of the fish and I bet these are going to be sitting around for awhile if they stay that high. Unfortunately, there really is just not that much of a market here in the US for these fish (They are not well known) so if they are priced in a cost prohibitive manner, or if the cost of obtaining them for sale prices puts them into a prohibitive range they will just not sell.
