I believe they are easily stressed when small. They can't have any competition when it comes to food. Since they get to such a hugh size they have to constantly eat and eat and eat =-)

The slightest cause of stress can be their demised. I say this because when the grouper was in my sump he was active, feeding (heavily daily) and very personable. Do a search for videos I posted. I had him in my sump for several months. The day I added him to my main tank is when the trouble started. He was good the first few days. At first he was agressive when it came to feeding, however as the days past and when he kept having to compete for food is when he started to get stressed & lethargic. He was actually even picked on by my Loaches =-( ...... Everyone who has ever posted one in a community setting has never posted an update ?

Only Wes and Ivan has had them live the longest, and the common thing they share is that they both are kept solitary.
 
Interesting Joey. Well you don't know until you try do you :) I'm sorry it didn't work out for you, and the fish died, but at least it contributes valuable info to keeping these fish.

PS - didn't you have 2?
