Use up these low quality foods or toss?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I would use it up. No point in wasting $ spent. Like a year ago i shut down a koi pond, and had like 2 lbs of koi pellets left, i used it up on my cichlids by just substituting half of their normal pellets each feeding.

Use it, if you don't plan to use i t now just store in freezer, properly stored these things seem to last nearly forever

Compost it if you compost.

tetra min isn't that bad years ago that was a high quality food. Your fish are sort of common and will do fine on either product. I know the tetra min will pollute your water quicker though. Tetra min was all I used for years until NLS came out and I never looked back. Again tetramin was developed in Germany and was a good staple for years

Thanks for all the input. This thread helped a lot as now I feel fine with using it up and then transitioning to the better stuff.

I debated this two months ago and decided to keep feeding but then I debated it again in my head prior to posting this

After all the responses suggesting I use it up, it's seems clear that is the way to go so I no longer have to keep debating this in my head. Thanks again.

I have noticed the waste issue when I've fed the food in the QT tank as it's bare bottomed. Theres a lot more poop after I feed the tetra foods (and it's red colored). The NLS definitely results in less waste.
