The screwed on caps that prevent water from gushing through the bottom holes are labeled 3/4"....Does this mean that the previuos plumbing set was 3/4" too???There's about 5 inches left of the previuos piping that is screwed to the drainage caps...Can I just purchase an adapter to continue on from the old pvc piping???Thanks....

Not sure what you mean by "drainage cap". It's probably a bulkhead fitting but, a pic would help solve the mystery. Shoot and post pics to help get the right answers.

I'm a newbie to wet/dry's and pre-drilled tanks...I plan to convert my 32g tank into a wet/dry filled with sponges, Bio Balls, and plastic straw pieces....This is a 180g tank...

The top picture shows whats left of the old pvc piping, about 6-7 inches of pipe...The white caps(I guess they are called bulkheads) screwed on top of this piping can be seen in the second picture, they are labeled to be 3/4"....Knowing this number, what size of pvc pipes do I use for the rest of the plumbing(from intake to outake)???Does Home Depot sell an adapter that will allow me to continue plumbing using these existing two pieces of pipe???I do not want to start all over and drill another hole, I want to continue from these two dangling pieces of pvc...Also, the back corners each are pre-drilled and have a venturi-style outlet(for out going water) screwed to it...These plastic pieces are labeled 1/2"...I hope this is clear for everyone...I may have to pay someone to come over and look at it if I can't solve the piping size dilema....Thanks

Jay

heres another pic to help your thread...

j - my only other concern is if you use the existing out take spouts. they seem very narrow and small and might not be able to handle the water being pumped out by your pump. how wide are the out take pipes?

btw - your pm box if full and unable to take anymroe pm's!

I would personally use slip and slip connectors and continue it down to the sump. Or even better I would do a slip to barb and continue in clear flex tubeing that way if anything is lodged in your pipes you can tell where just by looking.

I would make it simpler for myself by getting a hang on overflow, but the back slots at the top of the tank are sealed with silicone and plexi:nilly: ......

Jerry...As for the size of the outake pipes goes...You mean the two 90 degree-elbow shaped tubes located inside the tank(hanging from the top corners) right???Well they are labeled 1/2".....

Dr. Sudz....What is "slip to barb"???Are saying squash the whole pvc thing and go flexible????

I want to know what size pvc to continue with from what's already dangling....It's not white pipe, but can I continue using regular white pvc???I apologize for sounding ignorant, but I have'nt visited Home Depot to see what's available yet...Nor have I gotten a chance to get to a lfs and ask...In the long run, I'm sure that I'll kick myself in the ass after realizing how easy it was to solve whatever it is I'm trying here...Thanks for whoever is bearing with me, but I'm way to anxiuos to get this tank started and what size diameter to use on the whole plumbing is irking me...

Was that a joke?!??!?shshsh...............*****crickets cherping in the back*****.....................Oddballer coughs in the background..........

I'm concern that the intake and outake tubes will be posistioned weirdly now that they have to go more in because of the covered filter slots....

BTW, Before giving you the FilStar xP4, I traded the xP3 top with the xP4 top....Now who's the last one laughing.....:naughty: HAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHOHOOHEEHEHHEHEH:naughty: ....

Nah...I'm still converting my 32g(tall) into a wet'Dry, no matter what....How does filling a bucket with sponges, bio balls, and cut straws sound???I'll place the bucket on top of a small stand inside of a rubbermaid tub....

or

Cut some plastic screens(from Home Depot) and place them accordinally in the 32g, forming levels for the sponges and rest of bio media.....I still do not know what size pump I'll be using....

Ya I would 90 off the bottom and a barb goes from hard pipe to flex. Flex makes it easy to move the top on and off, plus as i said you can see what is in the pipe if a fish jumps and lodges in there you can get him out.
