Okay so Im picking up a 150g tank tomorrow the guy had a salwater set up in it. for an extra $50 he said hed give me both his filter and both his heaters and some extras. my question is if I set these filters on my tank do I have to replace the media in them? or will they be okay? and second the heaters, do I have to clean them before I put them in the tank? and my last question is, do I have to clean the inside of the tank and if I do what should I use?

The heaters are 150w each, and the filters are emperor 400's

I would take the filters apart and do a bleach soak and rinse, and put them back together with new media. It might be overkill, but dead marine life stinks really bad, and the filters are probably full of little critters you can't see with the naked eye. I would do the same for the heaters

If they are emp400's just replace with new pads and new biowheels. Petsmart carries both. Give the inside if the filter a good scub with done hot water and you should be good. I've run emp400s on both salt then fresh with no problems.

alrights cool, so for the heaters can I just use hot water and maybe some simple green since its safe to use for animals?

To remove salt residue and crud, I recommend vinegar and warm water. You may have to soak the items for awhile to get the crud to remove easily.

Of course do not immerse any of the electrical parts that shouldn't get wet.

okay now I didnt know he was gunna give me the sand too.. sooo what should I do to clean it and how do you recommend doing it?

My canister was from salt and was encrusted inside and out. Disassembled and cleaned with warm water and throw away the hoses. NEver had a problem in over 2 years.

When I clean sand I put it in a bucket with half the bucket empty, put the hose in the bottom of the bucket the let it run til the water is clean. Then mix up the sand and repeat about 6 times. till I only have clean water.
