I'm wanting to get into this hobby and I'm curious as to how much tanks should cost used.

I've seen some on craigslist and the pricing varies greatly. What would be a decent price for a 55g tank? A 75g tank?

Obviously the price goes up depending on the filters / heaters / other accessories so I'm just wondering base prices for a used tank.

For a 55g brand new is usually around or a little over $100 and I've seen new 75g's go for like $135 but that's just the tank :/

If I'm buying just the enclosure generally I try to shoot for around a dollar a gallon.
New, the larger tanks are expensive, so people usually try to get around half what they have in them, and this can be considerably more than that. If you take your time and look for a while you can get an amazing deal, but expect to do a lot of cleaning, and probably re seal. My last three tanks were free, but required considerable effort to put them back in to shape. I come across stuff all the time. Paper, yard sales , Craigs list, and other fish keepers are all great resources. Just keep in mind that you get what you pay for, just like anything else in life.

I would'nt pay more than one hundred dollars for either of those two tanks, with equipment, based on some of the deals that I've seen around..All of my tanks, except my 180 were bought used and a good number of them were free. You can find some gems at flea markets also.

It depends on location as well and Mississauga is going to make it more difficult to find a good deal :(

Luckily I work in Toronto and have access to pretty much all of Southern Ontario (Cottage out in London and friends in Windsor) so I'm not as worried about driving to pick one up. Just looking for something to get me started.

where I live, most 55's with filters, stands and whatnot try to be priced at $500
Most do not sell, but that is the price range here haha
Be patient and hopefully you can find a good deal

if you look, it is possible to get a good deal last october I found a 360 gallon with stand that came with 5 good sized boxes of misc fish stuff , a custom iron stand, a custom breeding container that fits perfectley in the tank for $500 , only thing I need to buy is better filtration and some heaters ... O and it came with a 19-20 inch common pleco :-) so far hes my biggest monster! :D
