Used Tank Costs

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have seen 55 gallon tanks go for free around charlotte... I think it depends on what you are after. Free was just the tank and hood though. full setups I would plan on about $100 to $200

Any used tank I've seen, thats reasonably priced, comes up at $1 per gal if just the tank, and about $2 per gal if with stand and accessories.

Perfect example is the 150 I have. Got it off craigslist for $300. Came with Sump, Lights, Bio-Balls, Gravel, All the Hood Glass, and the stand... granted I had to rebuild the stand... but it was a pretty good buy. I see ads like this all the time here in FL.

Cakilla, where did you look? So far I'm only using Craigslist and Kijiji...Are there better places to look for used tanks?

I found mine on craigslist.
I had to broaden my searching area but I did it and found my tank, you might have to drive a little more than you want to but sometimes you got to go get what you want when you get tired of waiting for what you want to come to you.:headbang2

Is a 75g with a stand, heater (don't know the model # yet), lid, light and fluval 303 and fluval 304 worth $350?

I'd say so. Cut the price of those filter off and you got the same calculations we all agree with, about a buck a gallon.

I bought a new 72, with a 305, lights heater lid and i paid over $1600 Canadian dollars and that's when the dollars were even. Aquariums are not cheap in my town.

usually 75 go for 300 on cl around here, yesterday i found a 180 full setup for 125 but by the time i got to call the guy it was gone.

How much would this be worth?

72g Bowfront tank w48.5" h23" d19"
Nice matching stand
Twin Rena XP3 filters4 Bala sharks
1 indigo violet African Cichlid
2 Air Stone Dragons, air pump and heater
2 lighting types, natural and UV
?

A lot of it depends on where you live. If there are always 55 gal up for sale the price will be lower then in a town where used tanks are hard to come by. In San Fran CA You can find amazing deals. I use to be on CL all the time looking for tanks I have bought and sold tanks.

I bought my 55 gal Used with stand and Cheap lights for $60.
I just bought a 80 gal 3 yr old with Fluval 450 light 400watt heater and decor nets and other random stuff for $200. Everything works and is in great shape.
My 5ft 100Gal with stand crap light, heater and filter that did not work for

I sold a used 90 gal with home made stand with filter for $150.

I would say if you are looking for a 55 gal with EVERYTHING included $100 is ok depending on if stuff works. $200 for a nice larger tank 75 gal - 125 gal is a fine price.
