After my recent (2nd) outbreak of camallanus worms and another unsuccessful attempt at curing it, and with no luck finding panacur I have been toying with the idea of using some leftover paraciticide for my dog on the fish. Currently I've euthanized all of the fish that had the worms but I did that last time too and it still popped up in a completely different tank months later. I'm wondering if the active ingredient in the dog medication, not being common would not be on the list of meds camallanus are immune to and therefore might work. Im assuming it wont hurt the fish, since panacur is also a dog dewormer but I also know there's no guarantee it would work on camallanus or any other waterborne paracite either.

Thoughts?

Friend tried that once. His tank water turned milky white and it killed everything in the tank except the fish which were not doing too hot but none the less still alive.

I would not advise doing it but if you must watch the dosage very carefully.

whoa! I was like, "who changed my avatar back?", but it is just msl4

At this point Im not going to try it. If the worms pop up again I'll go on another quest for fenbendenezol (Im sure I spelled that wrong) and try this as a last resort.

I used Praziquantel pills to treat my fish... just ground it up with a mortar and pestle, made a solution in distilled water, and added it to the tank. Worked well!

I am not sure the generic name of the actual medication, but find a medication with praziquantel as the active ingredient and you should be fine.

I have come across article on using flubendazole from a dog vet as fish meds. the trick though is getting the right dosage.

heart worm medicine can kill a dog ... it is poison.. it has to be the exact right dosage for each dog of different weight.. .. each and every time we use a heart worm medicine for a dog it is doing harm and has side effects.. maybe not enough for you to see.. and maybe not enough to do long term damage in the right dose.. but it is poison .....but in small doses it saves their life..but you should always give it exact time each month because anything else would be overdose ... fish would have no chance even with the tiniest amount unless maybe you were a scientist or vet.
