i have recently read about using hydrogen peroxide as an algae killer. i was wondering if anyone has tried it before? i was thinking of using it on my plastic plants as there is still algae left on them after i just curred my algae bloom

Do note that H2O2 is a very strong oxidiser. I generally would just prefer boiling water/ bleach and a good time scrubbing

I usually do a over-night/ 6 hour bleach water soak. approx 1/4 ratio.. IE 5 gallon bucket w/ 1 gallon of bleach toss the plants in and top it off with water. This method will take the worst of build-up off ime. Then I simply rinse the plants/decor thoroughly. and fill the bucket with fresh water. and drop a super dose of de-chlore into the bucket and swish it around. Or let the deco/plants dry for another 24 hours or so.

what the people using this method are saying that it is safer than bleach because when H2O2 breaks down, it turns into water and oxygen. they are using it small amounts like 1ml per 8 gallons. and afterwards when the plants are done soaking they do not need to be rinsed as thoroughly as if it were bleach

When I had fake plants I'd place them in a bucket of the hottest tap water my faucet had to offer before I started cleaning/wc. When done with tank I gave the plants a light rinse and put them back. The heat killed the algae and within 24-36 hours it would be gone from the plants.

I have used it to cure a few diseases but never to kill algae. Although I have never had an algae problem because of my plecos. if you give it a try post your results.
