ive heard u can use live bait by hooing it just before the tail and letting it swim around untill a bigger fish come. my question is where do i get them???? i cant just try to catch 3" long fish with a pole. do bait stores sell things (other than minnows because those would surely die from the hook) so where do i get them????????

Well if your fishing some where near the great lakes there will be no place to buy bait of this type. With the bans because of VHS. You'll want to check with your laws to see if you can catch bait from a pond or another body of water and use it else where. Here If you catch the bait while your fishing and use it in the same place its ok as long as the bait was legal caught. Using bait from other sources can lead to problems. Here in MI we can still use bluegills as bait from other places but not many other species. Lucky for me the pond I fish for bluegills has a creek that leads to the river where I fish for catfish.

is it legal in ohio?

and where can i catch the bait and with what?????

I am in Mi and havnt checked your local DNR laws since I was there a few years ago. Theres a web site just google Ohio DNR and it should come up.

Forget live bait but if you must cause of lack of skill, catch some small sunnies using worms and just live line them.

This part you will have to find out for yourself as well. On what depends I Catch mine with rod and reel. but In other states you might be able to use other methods like a cast net but you will also have to check the laws.

depends on what your fishing with live bait for CF. Him being near the great lakes and fishing Erie. Live is the best way to go to catch every thing from stripers, white bass, walleye, catfish, drum, etc.

well there are nooooooo ponds near so im only able to catch lake erie fish. Are there any traps or anything?

Mybad, since all i do is bass fish i always get on people for using live bait.

Here where they have hybrid bass people go in the river and catch shad & herring and live line them in 12ft of water. I hear it works great.
