I bought a bigger tank and I am using my small HOB filter with my new larger HOB filter to start beneficial bacteria in the tank. Also used Stress Zyme. How long should I keep the small filter in the tank. Water parameters are good.

how big is the tank and what filters are they?
are there any fish in there at all?

Whisper HOB filters, 10-20 is the small and 20-40 is the large. 37 gal tank with one LMB 7" and one bullhead 5". Also has a school of feeders. I transplanted the gravel from the other tank, after I added some. Also has a very large Java fern and some java moss. Don't know if these plants will survive in cold water though.

I do water changes once a week, 20% varying on nitrate levels.

I would think that a couple of weeks and you will be good. I'm no pro but I've done similar things with no problems.

those particular fish are pretty hardy even if some levels spike. I've raised lmb by throwing them in tap water. They don't die and neither will a bullhead

Thanks for the info. I believe they will survive, but I am trying to do whats best for the fish.

crap leave the xtra filter in for good cant have enough filtration

It sucks up the air bubbles and makes noise, drives me nuts. Plus I have to run an extension cord.
