Using one pump to run 2 sponge filters?

Hello; Not sure what air pump you have but I have had several air pumps with two outlets. I have also taken some apart and in a few cases fixed problems. Both tube are outlets do operate independent of each other. The guts of the pump part are usually two rubber cups attached to a plastic base on one side and a thin metal strip on the other end. The metal strip have a small magnet on one end.
The magnet is mounted so that it is near a U or double UU shaped electromagnet. The electro magnet f course has wires wrapped around the U or double UU. When you plug in the pump the wires cycle electricity back and forth at 60 cycles per second (60 cps)(60 hertz). This cycling causes the magnet on the metal strip to vibrate at 60 cps. This vibration causes the rubber cups to move air and inside the plastic base some thin flap valves open and close which allows the air to only move in one direction.
These type air pumps do not make a lot of pressure but do make enough to run several sponge filters. There is more but I will stop here for now.

Welp, I just wasted $5, but now I’ve got 25 extra feet of tubing so...
Hello; Air from an air pump is not affected too badly by long air hose. I do not think it is the length of the air hose that is the problem. I figure it is that you do not seem to have used any valves to adjust the air flow and to bleed off excess pressure. I will comment more on this later, nut need to take a break now. Extra air hose is not a waste.

hello; Without getting further into the weeds about air pumps let me make a guess. My guess is you still have an air stone in the sponge filters. These stones get clogged up after a time and the air flow is restricted which causes backpressure in the pump and shortens their working life.
many decades ago I stopped using an air stone. I just have the end of an air tube open inside the sponge filter. The bubbles are big but it still works just fine with almost no restriction.

I do not have an airstone in the sponge filter

It will be fine.. I use one with two outlets to power 3 different things, 2 of them are to two separate sponge filters at opposite ends of a 6 foot tank and one of them is split with a splitter and valve that goes to an led air tube. Haven't had any issues.
