I was wondering if any of you are using only AC110's on a 100gal + tank? Are these HOB filters sufficient or is a canister filter a must? THANKS!!

Personally I use a combination of HOB, cannister and air driven foam filters but if your tanks clear and bio stable then go for it.

I personally prefer canisters over power filters. Another neat thing I like about them is its more pleasing to the eye to see canister tubes going into my tank than a bulky powerfilter in the back.

what do u mean foam filter? a sponge filter like used for breeding? aren't those kinda unsightly?

I have a 125 filled with about 100 gallons filtered with an AC110. Current bio load is 12 Temensis that are about 12 inch each. I started the tank over four months ago with 22 Tems that were about 4 to 5 inch each. Started to thin the pack when they grew to about 8 inch each and sold or traded 10 of them.

The current pack of 12 will be reduced to 6 by this weekend. The remaining six are expected to produce a breeding pair, hopefully.

So far the AC together with an air driven corner filter at each end has handled the job very well.

Yes..and not at all. They are easy to hide behind plants/rocks or decorations. Other than the bubble collum you don't really notice them. They add to the available nutrifying bacteria but most importiantly can be driven by car battery powered air pumps during a power outage.

I love the AC's but if you have a really heavy bioload on the 100+ tanks go canister or wet/dry.
