Using Overflows as a Filter??

There is a few reasons i was thinking about this but i will just use a normal tank with overflows if i filled the overflow with bio media like Eheim's Ehfisubstrat Pro and then just used the drain holes to a canister filter would that work and be worth it?

Or another idea was with the hole plugged and just did used the intake hose in the overflow..

yea was thinking about a drip system and then a overflow to a drain aka WAY less water changes and clean water into the tank at all times ... and little to no chance of the water dropping below the overflow

have you considered using an old HOB and returning the water through the bottom of it? You'd have to use a powerhead or something for water circulation if the tank was large.

I'll always agree with a drip system. I absolutely love mine.

well what i was thinking was still use the canister and using a spray bar like normal .. just using the overflow as a big bio media holder ... i didnt know if the pressure of the inside of the Fx5 means anything ..

i see lots of people who use a sump .. and it would kinda be like a sump then a canister filter then a normal return .. if it would work .. or even be worth it ..

the idea is that im doing a custom build and figured that i could build that into the tank if it would be worth it ... but if its not .. then i wont waste my time ..

also i had the opportunity to pick up a drilled tank with overflows .. i wanted to know what i could use them for ..

It could work, but it would introduce points of failure that woudln't be worth it IMO. If you get a drilled tank, just make a sump

i only talking about if for some reason i didnt do a sump ..

only other options ..
