Using platys as feeders

I'm getting a group of 50+. Mickey mouse platys they started out with 6 and have bred like crazy would these be suitable as feeders if not I'll just put them in a different tank

Yeah it's perfectly fine. Some stores sell them as feeders. Just make sure if you have a wife to ask her if she wants one for a pet first :ROFL:
 
Well I'm not married but the girlfriend already tried to tell me I had to get her an aquarium to keep them all in. My jaguar will enjoy them though as well as my other chiclids

Are platies live bearers like mollies? Once my pbass is out of the growout tank I wanted to breed something as a food source, which do you think is better? Mollies or platies?
 
Both platies and mollies breed about the same, mollies don't eat the babies as much though but they prefer salt in their water so if you want to raise them in a planted tank that might be an issue. I have always preferred platies because they seem a bit more tough than mollies and get sick less often. The black mollies seem to be the worst at getting fungus and fin rot. The variatus type platy is really robust.
