Stingray_tj,
The reason why carbon is not used by many aquarists is because it is beneficial at first in removing toxins but after it has reached its "saturation point" (not sure if this is the right term) or its chemical holding capacity - it starts releasing all those chemicals that it captured BACK into the tank. Big no-no.
First Week - Wash sponge
Second Week - Wash 1/4 of the media
So on and so forth...

It is in your best interest not to rinse your sponges and filters during the treatment. You will be getting rid of a lot of beneficial bacteria that you might need. I know a lot of medication including Prazi, state that it does not kill BB but always safe than sorry. If you were to rinse it, do it in portions and spread it out in weeks. Always rinse in its own tank water, hopefully in a bucket after being siphoned out in a water change.now since ill be havin no carbon filters in for a months it looks like should i now wash out my filters an sponges with tank water once a week to keep clean?
