using prazi pro

Stingray_tj,

The reason why carbon is not used by many aquarists is because it is beneficial at first in removing toxins but after it has reached its "saturation point" (not sure if this is the right term) or its chemical holding capacity - it starts releasing all those chemicals that it captured BACK into the tank. Big no-no.

now since ill be havin no carbon filters in for a months it looks like should i now wash out my filters an sponges with tank water once a week to keep clean?
It is in your best interest not to rinse your sponges and filters during the treatment. You will be getting rid of a lot of beneficial bacteria that you might need. I know a lot of medication including Prazi, state that it does not kill BB but always safe than sorry. If you were to rinse it, do it in portions and spread it out in weeks. Always rinse in its own tank water, hopefully in a bucket after being siphoned out in a water change.

First Week - Wash sponge
Second Week - Wash 1/4 of the media
So on and so forth...

GL.

I have flukes in my tank, I have had fish kicking the bucket left and right, I have the remaining fish in a hospital tank, the main tank is 125 gallon with only that is left is a motoro stingray which is healthy no issues and a poscoumous. I was thinking of adding Prazipro half dose in the tank, the yahoos at the pet store said do not add any chemicals or meds with a stingray which might be sound advice but I have been doing 50% water changes on the main tank and adding salt I heard if the flukes does not half a host they die off. But I am thinking if any larva or flukes left in the tank when I add the healed fish back in the tank I do not want them getting again as I have lost so many fish all I have left in the hositpal tank is two angels, rainbows, tire track el, the tire track ell has it bad and looks lioke one is in its eye as it is cloudy and has one of the white shaped whisker which comes to a y. Two questions, one can motoro stingrays get flukes, and two has anyone have had luck with using prazipro with stingrays? okay three...what should I do now?

i use carbon filter pads all the time and change it every 3 weeks it polishes the water thats all i use it for

I use Prazi every 6 months on my stock since I feed alot of live foods. Ive never had an issue with it and used it to treat a myrid of species includeing my spiney eels and retic rays. I dose 3 days in a row after a large wc and then continue wcs as usual.

Why do you use Carbon anyways? I dont use carbon at all. I load up my canisters with media (ceramic rings) and clean them out once every 4-6 months.

I would not use carbon even after you finish using meds in the tank.

The instructions for PraziPro posted by "Crazyness" is mainly for Anchor Worms (dont quote me on the A. Worm but it was a pain in the arse one posted by Lupin) as that was the leinght of time that was used to get rid of the Parasite.

I would say 2 weeks is good enough for treating internal parasites but im far from a Pro on parasites

G/L
and ditch the carbon.... JMO

Praziquantel does not kill anchor worms.

Prazi is used for treating gill flukes and some internal parasites. But not very effective because nobody uses it proper

Why are you using the prazi?

What signs have your rays shown.are you sure your tank has gill flukes or is it not the 125 gallon your keeping ray(s) in???

Is this a sticky? If not it should be. Prazipro directions on bottle did nothing. this worked like a charm

it says to remove to carbon filter while adding thins to the tank. but doesnt say when to add the filter back in? after the 4 to 5 days of filtering prazi pro or jus after its cycled through after a hour or 2...?? if i was to leave the carbon filters in would this przi pro even work??

If your using carbon you should know what it does

If it was me after the treatment of prazi put the carbon back in then change the carbon one week later as the carbon will strip out all the remaining prazi so will be exhausted

Carbon strips out all meds so prazi won't be any different

Is carbon a big part of your filtration
