K is using river rocks that I grab from a river safe. I have found so many mixed answers on this. some say just bake it at 200 for 20 min and it'll be fine. others say just scrub them in hot water. I've herd that they can mess up you PH. I need answers I am inclined to Bake them and put them in the tank for a while before I put fish in and just do water changes...

Ideas please.

Just boil them in a large pot if they are small enough to do so, otherwise scrub them down with hot water and rinse them very well. I've never had any problem with locally collected rocks and driftwood and those are my methods.

i pulled mine out of the east river on the queens side. boiled them and never had a problem.

I scrub with a clean brush in warm water to get all the dirt and grime off and then soak them in really hot water to try to kill any bugs that may be in the cracks. After that, they are normally good to go. I use rocks collected from the creek behind my house and have never had any issues.

Fantastic thanks for the responses I will collect from my local river and create fantasticness! I have also used rocks before found in teh wild but it was only ever one at a time so I wanted to make sure it was still of.

Thanks

ive got rocks from a unaware neighbors landscaping in my tank, they look and do great, no issues at all. but some rocks do change your water chemistry like limestone and others similar.
