Using sand from a local lake

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
COuldnt wait any longer....My girl has two moor goldfish...they couldnt be in the 10g any longer...Got an upgrade to a 40g hex....Livin w/ the same tankmates...a 3-4in clown pleco, (6) 4-6in chaca chaca catfish.

This sand looks really good...especially since it's free. From a local lake....can only find this sand on one of the beaches too....I boiled it cause my girl didnt think it was neccesary to bake it....they are her fish. So far so good. Looks really good...soon the 120 is gettin sand.

WOW that looks great! thats the look i was going for in my 400g. care to deliver some??? :naughty: :)

Thanks guys! Jose I still need to collect some for my 120g. That would be a ton for your 405. But it would look really good. Im gonna grab some more after this weekend. The folks on the beach were really cool last time...lets see bout this time.

If you are using it for a softwater set-up, make sure it contains no hardness builders. Drop of hydrochloric acid on a small bit of sand, if it bubbles it will harden your water

Not too many people have a drop of HCl handy....

I've never baked pond sand, but I'm guessing it would add an interesting odor to one's home.
Lake Tahoe is definitely no pond. Look at a map and check out the lake on the California/Nevada border. It's huge lol.
