I walk in the door a couple days ago and dont see my 3 pea puffers and 2 killis I thought thought they were just hiding. But yesterday when cleaning my magnum H.O.T i see some little nasy blobs in it. I turns out there my puffers SUCKED THREW THE PLASTIC GRATE ON THE END OF THE FILTER. Anybody else have this problem? I assume the killis got sucked up to because i found a live tetra in the filter that i was able to save. I am PISSED. :irked: :swear: :angryfire :wall:

that is really bad and sad......sorry

One of my GSP's got stuck to the filter intake one time, but all 3? Seems odd... I've never heard of this issue with the HOT magnums, but anything is possible. I think its more likely they got stuck to the intake a while back & got sucked thru the grate after they had been dead awhile & started to decompose. I dont know if you can really blame the filter, though. If you want to continue using a filter with such strong suction in a tank with small fish, I would throw a sponge prefilter over the grate to diffuse the suction.

I setup my 100g tank with a 55g sump and I decided to put my breeding mollies into the sump. it was all fine till I shut off the pump to test the overflows. all seemed to be fine the tank drained only to the bottom of the overflows so i turned the pump back on.

well...... I had a little peice fo foam on the intak to the pump and when the pump was shutoff the water already in the pipe drained backwards and pushed the foam off of the pump (it wasn't really sucured except by pump pressure) one of my female mollies was curiously checking it out when I turned the pump back on...... I never knew how cheap impellers could be, not only did the mollie die, but she took out the impeller at the same time (well at least the little lip where the impeller meets the magnet assemebly)

So a lesson learned make sure your foam is well secured if you're going to put fish in your sump. lol

I had a maxi jet 1200 suck up a 1.5" inch bichir. I felt retarded for not having a strainer or anything on it..... It was the old kind of maxi jet 1200 I got with a hundred gallon I bought. I felt bad about that one . Killed the baby bichir instantly.. the powerhead still runs like a champ. It must have been like a final destination movie underwater or something.

I had a prefilter come off of a Mag Drive 12 and a group of 8 Clow Loaches all swam right up the hose...

When I heard the pump sounding a bit weird I opened it up to find 5 ground up Loaches and 3 alive still in the tube...
