Or you can take any old sponge... Saturate it... freeze it... drill a hole in it (while frozen)... let it thaw.. and you have a perfectly round hole in a sponge... which is all a "prefilter" really is...

yay are there any prefilters i could buy or make? if i made one how would i make it.

I had the exact same thing happen to my HOT Magnum on my BN breeder. Found over 30 pleco fry still alive, a couple dead.

What I did is bought one of the replacement Marineland course sponges, I don't remember the part number though, it was like $6. It was tube chaped with a hole through the middle. I cut a half inch strip off the bottom and plugged the bottom of the hole with stuffed in sponge.

Cheap easy and it never caught another BN after that. I bred allot of fry in that tank too.
