ok so ppl are saying i need one for my FRT....

the turt is temporarily in a 75g moving to a 300g in a month.

will a 4'' bulb from reptigo or something be sufficient for its whole life??
or should i just get a uv sterilizer and a powerhead?? pls let me know.

ok i dont exactly understand the ?. the bulb is for the turt to get the uvb it needs for health. the power head is to filter the water, i would say you need both. not a pro at turtles though. i would say in a 300 gal you will need more that powerheads. i would look into a good filter.

i alrdy have FILTERS. emperor 400's.

i just want any fungus and weird infections to be not prone for these turts!

do u get me?
so im planning on getting a 18watt UV STERILIZER and a 585gph Powerhead. + my emperor 400 should be sufficient for the turt right???? I don't actually need a UV light having straight contact with the turtles body do i?? as long as it sterilizes the water its fine righT?????

I think you're getting confused from that other thread.

The UV light connected to the filtration keeps the water clean, yes, it's good to have, but the UV light specific to the turtle, is light that you want making contact with the turtles skin.

That helps keep the turtle healthy. I don't even own a turtle, but I'm pretty sure I got that right.

On a side note, don't bump the crap out of a thread to get answers, give people time, some people have lives away from the computer. If you're that impatient, how about having a look around the net, there's all kinds of info out there.

well i dont feel like spending money on getting both. either i spend $50 on that light making contact with his skin or $300 for that sterilizer + powerhead.

so wouldnt the sterilizer and powerhead be sufficient for the turts life withotu the uv light on his skin??

I'll try again....

the UV light you are talking about are two different types, for two different purposes.

You don't need the one hooked up to the power head, that's just extra filtration.

btw, no, an emperor 400 is not enough for a FRT. You'll need much more, think multiple canisters... think big sump.

If you read the replies in the other thread, Coura already mentioned that the need for UVB is debatable, but if you truly care about your FRT and want it to be 100% healthy, then you'll get the UVB light for it's skin.

Maybe you should google some info on FRT keeping, and read the stickies here.
