Just wondering what is being used these days. My UV kicked the bucket and was beyond repair so I am in the market again....just wondering who uses what these days and why.

I have a 40W Lifegard Aquatics UV sterilizer on the 300 gallon tank. Going with two 120W UV sterilizers on the big tank. They are tall, though, and wouldn't fit in most stands. I have mine behind the tank.

Wow! I would purchase the same brand .
Actually, it is/was a Lifegard Aquatics brand. I remember it being very expensive at the time and replacement bulbs were also pricey....but then I found a place on line that sells the uv-c bulbs for like 1/3 of what I was paying.
I guess I will go with another Lifegard...I didn't realize it was nearly 15yrs old!!
The only thing I didn't like about my old Lifegard was its plumbing was all at the bottom of the housing...not convenient to plumb into my sump....never liked the installation.
You know the one thing I have discovered about uv sterilizers? They get brittle from the Inside out....the protective sleeve in mine got damaged and so I left it out...then the housing cracked....Hell yes I would hopefully they will be built the same.
...I do believe that they haven't changed much...they look the same on line.
Oh ok, but even with that sleve removed it performed for 15 yrs.
My uv sterilizer lasted about 3 yrs the salt quickly damaged it.
