UV Sterilizer Questions.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
im aware. like i said. i have them on all my tanks personally. im not one of those that reads something or is told something and just assumes.

keep in mind, this is one more thing to plug in that will be running ALL DAY, so if your electri bill is too high as it is, might not be a good idea. while it doesnt take up a lot of electricity, if youre runing a few of them, it does add up. all things to factor in.

Great link....bad timeing for me...he bashed the aquamedic uv's and thats the one I got lol. I never opened it so maybe I can return it.

For general info, you also have to consider what you are going to use it for, it's performance and use(fighting algae or parasites/bacteria) will be determined by the gph. The faster the flow the less it will do. The slower the more it will kill, a good rule of thumb is to run less the 50% max flow to kill parasites/ bacteria usually 25% flow rating. The max I would run it 90% max flow rating if you just want to kill algae generaly 80%. This is up to the user, there are other factors but using this basic strategy will allow you to get the most out of the UV filter.

ive never ran a UV on any of my tanks and ive never had any disease problems. its an optional item. but when i started messing with planted tanks, i had to get one. here's the before and after pics!

If you get the GPH low enough...cant it do it all...green water/parasites/bacteria?

yes you should

Yes, the slower it goes the more it will do, but be carefull too slow will cause too much heat so watch your tank temp. At faster speeds it will not kill bacteria or parasites, just fend off most algae.

In the majority of uv filters the flow direction does not matter, I have owned a couple turbo twist and they work fine either way.:)
