whats the purpose for the UV. its not going to do much other then kill some beneficial bacteria and external parasites if you have any. is your water dirty?? could always just increase the frequency of water changes!!

I've had better luck without UV to be quite honest.

i found this http://cgi.ebay.de/UVC-ENTKEIMER-UV...8943338QQihZ008QQcategoryZ77660QQcmdZViewItem
its a good price for 30watt but i dont know anything about the manufacter..

what do u think?

Don't know them from here (doesn't look like any of mine). Check to see their cost of replacement bulb, sometimes that's where they get you, see if it interchanges with other manufacturers units.

it doesnt kill beneficial bacterial it only kills parasites and its a good methode to predict diseases!it also helps with the algae

30 watt? ... over kill!

I use an 18 watt on my 210 gallon and also one on my 90 gallon.

Just put an inexpensive submersible one on the 90 gallon last Friday ... had BAD ALGAE problem (so bad you barely could see the fish in it) - last night it was clear enough to see through it the long way to tank next to it

on the 210 gallon - it is on a timer 10 hours on - 14 hours off.

Sorry, but your wrong, it does kill BB too, but just the free float ones, once adhered to a surface (filter or gravel or glass) the UV won't hurt it. Just doesn't use it while trying to cycle a tank :D.

They are good to keep free floating organisms from spreading. You can control algae or bacteria blooms. It is also good for killing parasites and other things.

I agree with the doctor, you should first check on the availability of replacement bulbs. They should be replaced every 6 months. You also need to clean the quartz sleeve.

From my experience most bulbs are interchangeable from one manufacturer to the next, but you never know... there could be some oddballs out there.

I have a sump with a UV witch circulates water through it after the bio side and the hole thing works great
yeah ... my 210 gal had that until the bulb & quartz insert needed to be replaced at a combined cost of over $120.00 (about $60.00 each) and a brand new 18 watt pond UV sterilizer was only $99.00 at Lowes Home Improvement and I had an extra Magnum 350 canister filter system to pump the water through it.

but on the 90 - it isn't drilled and set up with a sump - it has an eclipse enclosed top on it with 2 pumps, 4 bio wheels and 4 - 48inch bulbs (2 white & 2 blue).

...besides that ... it seems like a UV after the bio balls would kill off the beneficial bio organisms, and that doesn't make sense to me.
