UV Sterilizer

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I just bought this thinking it would work, and that it was at pets unlimited on the clearance table for $12. it says it Enhances the performance of UV sterilizers/clarifiers, and is rated for ponds up to 4000 U.S gallons. Would it work if i attached the clarifier in the tube of the inlet on a JEBO 839(400 GPH) and ran it with ceramic rings, and or Bio Balls in side of it? They had another one there, if it would be better having one on both, the inlet, and outlet?

That magnet is a waste of time. Laguna has some sort of magnet in most of their filters. I have a old Laguna pond filter with a magnet on the inlet. It's been a big joke in the koi hobby.
There is a lot of good UVs out there. Spend the money or don't bother getting one because as most people say you'll be sorry getting cheapo junk. Stick with T5 style lamps because they are more efficient and allows the water to be closer to the lamp with the narrow quartz sleeve.

So what I bought won't do any good? It'll just be there no doing anything?

What do you expect it to do? You won't see any visible difference. Suppose to align the ions only.

That's a negative.

Clarifier/Sterilizer uses high intensity light to weaken single cell algae and controls disease.
It doesn't take much UV to clear the water but for parasites and bacteria the UV dose must be calculated. Dose is a function of flow rate, chamber size, lamp efficiency and %T. The magnet you bought is not a UV sterilizer but a gadget.
