lots of inexpensive uv's I run $100.00 units in my tanks keeps ich at bay and controls diatom algaes .

What you need is some fast growing plants to outcompete the algae for nutrients. Once the plants start to grow the algae will disappear.

I have noticed that about a week or so after I turned off the UV, I too had the brown algae spots all over my tank, just when I thought I got them all, I find 10 more. So hopefully here soon this wont be an issue any longer.
Setup was cheap as well.

Can you recommend some fast growing plants? There is a LFS near my with an outstanding variety of plants for sale that i could go to

Many of your stem plants are fast growing - different types of hygrophilia, elodea, anacharis, cabomba, egeria najas, ludwigia, water sprite, myriophylum to name a few. Valisneria once established grows quickly. Tiger lotus bulbs also grow rapidly. Mexican oak leaf grows extremely fast but can take over a tank in no time.
You wouldn't want to know the price of a UV that can handle that kind of flow.
