UV Sterilizers: Are they worth the money?

Only if you are using them just to control suspended algae. If you are using them to also control disease causing parasites and/or bacteria then they should be left on 24/7.

If you have a sterilizer, wouldn't it be beneficial to run it for both parasites and floating algae? Does floating algae contribute to the algae on the sides of the tank?
