I was told that turning the bulb on and off all the time will shorten the bulbs life, were it may just not light up. Whereas, leaving it on, will continue, the light spectrum part of the light, to lose its effectiveness, but at least it did not just stop working because of a burnt out starter. Either way, you be getting a new bulb every year or so anyway. To be honest, I do not know what to think. Other than it works for my situation. I do not plan to buy one for my tanks in the basement. They are not in the same sunlight situation as the tanks upstairs.
P.S. Also noticed a differance right away.
