:screwy::chillpill: wouldnt all the water in the tank get hit by the uv bulb within 24 hrs more than once so a bypass is doing nothing if you have proper filtration all the water in your tank would hit the lamp within an hour anyway

Microbes work with a different time frame to humans. Repopulation of the filter is going on on an hourly basis. If what you say was true then you would only need to run the uv for a couple of hours a day. This doesn´t work practically though.

I just got my uv sterilizer, it is 26 watts running on a 200 gallon tank. My water has had no tint of green since. and my fish seem happier.

improves water clarity, if your overfiltered which most people on here honestly are, a uv will not cause any problems with your bio filtering capabilities

Thats true I am filtering over 3000 GPH on a 200 gallon tank and the uv sterilizer on a seperate pump is doing wonders for the clarity of my tank

If you put a UV lamp in the return line of the filter pump, optimally some of the water needs to be pumped through the UV lamp and some should be pumped back into the tank without going through the UV lamp. This is usually done by splitting the return line in 2 using a T piece before the UV lamp, then merging the two lines again after the UV but before returning the water to the tank.
