wouldnt all the water in the tank get hit by the uv bulb within 24 hrs more than once so a bypass is doing nothing if you have proper filtration all the water in your tank would hit the lamp within an hour anyway

Repopulation of the filter is going on on an hourly basis. If what you say was true then you would only need to run the uv for a couple of hours a day. This doesn´t work practically though.tylerperkins;2158137; said:wouldnt all the water in the tank get hit by the uv bulb within 24 hrs more than once so a bypass is doing nothing if you have proper filtration all the water in your tank would hit the lamp within an hour anyway
Thanks for clarifying that I was wondering. I want to buy a sterilizer to help with parasites and algae in my cycled quarantine tank.justin guest;2154298; said:If you put a UV lamp in the return line of the filter pump, optimally some of the water needs to be pumped through the UV lamp and some should be pumped back into the tank without going through the UV lamp. This is usually done by splitting the return line in 2 using a T piece before the UV lamp, then merging the two lines again after the UV but before returning the water to the tank.
