Alright people, need to pick your brains a little more. Since I know that I am going to have some problems with Algea in my 240, most because of sunlight, which I can cut down on some with shades and such but not completely. I also run a drip system to keep the water quality as near perfect as possible and dont overfeed. So.......would running a UV Sterilizer help me out at all? If not to help algea grow any other benefits? Also how, which ones do you suggest? How do you set them up, need pumps? Also could I set one up in my sump?

Well while waiting for some responses I did a little research. So a UV Sterilizer wont help the problem of Algea growing on the glass or anything, but it does help with green water, which I have never had in any of my tanks yet. Also helps with bacterial stuff and dieases. So with that said, if anyone knows, feel free to answer the other question I had.

Does it slow down algea on the glass of a tank at all?

Are they a benefit to helping keep your water clearer in any way?

The only real use for a UV sterilizer is for keeping parasites and free floating algae from taking over your tank. It has no other use other then controling the disease such as ick, worms of varoius sorts, and any other type of parasites.
If you are looking for something to polish your tank you want to look into a diatome filter. This removes fine particulate from the water leaving it crystal clear.

No what I was hoping for was something to help control the algea growth on the glass of my tank, namely the back, where it is quite hard to get at, but still working on a little device to help me out. I know there is no magic solution to completely eliminate the problem. Even so, if the a UV sterilizer has decent enough quailities then I may get one.
