UV Sterilizers

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Yeah I have a mag scrapper the problem is that I have to reach over my tank to get to the back, but then since it is 2 feet tall, I cant exactly get to the bottom edge of the tank. I cant come from the sides to well either being the tank is 8 feet long, so I have to rig up a handle on the one half of the scrapper to reach all the spots.

The only real use for a UV sterilizer is for keeping parasites and free floating algae from taking over your tank. It has no other use other then controling the disease such as ick, worms of varoius sorts, and any other type of parasites.
If you are looking for something to polish your tank you want to look into a diatome filter. This removes fine particulate from the water leaving it crystal clear.

I agree, they are of little use when it comes to algae ( unless it is free floating) but they are great at reducing secondary infection in tanks.

Fei feng it bro...

I think I might get a UV as well. It's great insurance!

I was thinking about a UV as well for the same reason as ewurm. As far as algae on the back of the aquarium, I'm the sort that just lets it grow on the back glass. I like the look and it gives the fry something to nibble on.

I just bought and 18 watt UV for my 150 and cant wait to see what type of a dif it makes.

As for algea on the back glass I know using the mag float can be a pain as far as reaching goes, but Im sure that once you do it and that algea goes "air' born what ever goes through the UV is killed instead of setteling somewhere else in the tank and sprouting up even more algea. Im hoping that will help fend it off.

I have never splurged on one those fancy fan dangled devices... I use a 1-2dollar blue scrubby pad...
