. So I understand about not wanting to losse him to anything. I am not speaking for all Motoros but mine has with stood a lot already and I have never experienced any problems at all. I have noticed that if he needs anything he makes sure I know so just keep an eye on him for the first month and you will notice likes and dislikes. I currently do 75% three times a week right now W/C just to ensure there quality of life. You may only need to do once or twice but of course you know better then any of us your feeding habbits and husbandry schedule. I feed sparaticly as I am trainning a few P's in the tank so I do starve them all out except the ray he gets Night Crawlers on a regular basis when I remember.
The P's won't be more of an overload on the bio then the ray as I am sure you have read they can't retain there urine so the foul up the water faster then any other messy/waste producing large fish. And of course just make sure there is lot's of room for him to hide under the substrate or just frolic around in. I have 60% of my tank wide open just for him. Also obsticles provide fun for them just not so many that he can't move around freely. I have not seen affects from Ph but as a note I keep my Ph extremly low 6.0 or lower and all of my fish are happy. I figure 6.0 to 6.5 is good. As for feeding I have my whole tank on market shrimp. I throw extra pieces in for the Ray and he does fine but the Earth Worms are a must they love them. I usullay get mine from WalMart. Other then that krill both freeze dried and frozen, Blood worms, Black worms and he should be fine. As far as size 8'' to 10'' would be ideal for the size P's you have and there shouldn't be any aggrewssion issues but most of my P's don't pay my ray any attention other then nipping at his tail but that is to be expected just not so much that there causing any damage to the ray. Something about that tail going up and down the tank all night and day that attracts them to it's tail. Who would of thought that a wagging tail would attract chase predetors.
. But all in all try it out and if it dosen't work just get the ray it's own tank and start that as a new attraction but I feel with 100% cearntinty that the mix will work as long as you remember the #1 Rule consistant and BIG W/C! Can't wait to see it when you get Dey Dey!High City Rida;2210007; said:I have a ray in wiht my P's and they don't bother him at all. You will have to do the W/C just a bit more and of course meet his feeding needs specificly. What type of Ray are you thinking about? And how big are your cichla?
I say do it man I love having a Ray and he makes a great addition to the whole tank. Also the Ray section has a lot of good husbandry information and just general knowledge about there disposition so check it out give it a try and PLEASE post pics. Here is my Ray appropriatly named "Craig" Yes Craig from Friday!
