Just wondering how big to expect these guys to get in an aquarium. I have seen in books and online that males get around 15 to 17 inches in the wild and females a little over a foot...is that the same growth to expect when kept in a home aquarium? currently growing a few out in a 90 and just curious what to expect...thanks in advance!

The get quite large in captivity, but factors like how often you do water changes, diet and crowding will determine how fast.
Males get 14 inch no problem, possibly bigger, wouldn't be surprised if I saw one that was 16 inch. I had one that was just a little over a year old and already 13 inch before it got killed. Too bad, he would have been huge by now.
It may have been a little longer, maybe 15 months or so and I bought him at around 3 inch. But still that thing grew like crazy.JeffLeMay;4960658; said:

I have been suprised that mine, which was 9" when I got him, has put on about three inches since I got him in July 2010.
