Vacation Tank Question

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
in the future if your gone for a long period of time, you could consider getting an auto feeder. ive never had one but they do seem cool.

Nope, those are a bad idea. I had one when I first started keeping fish, and it dumped my entire container of food into the tank while I was gone. Result? All fish died from the terrible conditions. This is also because they are made to feed twice a day or more. Personally, fasting would be the way I'd do it. If you're really concerned next time you go for a week, you could have someone come feed them on the 5th day. But if they were fine before, then they'll be fine again.

dude that sucks! i would have been pissed if that happened lol. well what i did is i measure the amount of food i feed them and put it in little cups. that way when i have someone come over to feed the fish, all they have to do is dump the cup in. the only problem is your gonna have little cups all over the place lol

I don't wanna steal your thread or anything but I got a quick question that relates to this. I'm leaving on monday morning and coming home friday night, would it be alright if I stuck a feeder block in there? I'm just a little worried about my gold nugget pleco. Again sorry for asking this in the OP's thread.

Feeder blocks are horrible food. 5 days won't be much but since its a pleco, you could try getting someone to come to your house to feed it for you. But 5 days shouldn't do any harm to your pleco. I'd just do a big water change before you leave.

No problem buddy, it's all about sharing information. By the way I'll second hating those feeder cubes. I tried one a while back and they make a mess and don't seem to work well. Good luck with your pleco, hope he does as well as mine did.

The kind I get are rich with spirulina? or something, I need to check out the package, and my Gold Nugget absolutely loves them. I'm always worried that he won't eat something new so I'm not gonna change it, I don't think they make too much of a mess, but I won't put one in my tank while I'm gone just in case
