Yeah they can go that long without food, but not something that I would like to happen. If someone doesn't mind to come over to feed my fish I would rather go that route. And with the baggy method it does make it super easy.
 
You can set up a timer for the lights if you want, so the person coming over to feed dosent have to worry about turning on/off the lights
 
Not sure off the top of my head check Home Depot or Lowes.. Walmart and Target may have them as well... It would just be a regular one like you would use for a living room lamp
 
Six days is not much to get too worried about.I am about to go away for two weeks and I will be worried about my fish the whole time I'm gone lol....You could just feed them a few times each day leading up to the day you leave,do a good water change before heading out and you should be good.
