Saw "paver sand" today, coarser and dark, like salt and pepper, but I don't know if it's safe. Cheaper than Tahitian Moon by far.

We make paver sand where I work. We make it out of dolomitic limestone. I don't know if it's the same stuff your seeing or not. If it is, I'm guessing it could change your PH big time. Be careful.

have good filteration since you always see poo sitting on the top of the sand. i have notcied if you make pits behind ornaments poo usually collects in them and you can suck poo from there. i run 3 xp3 filters on my 120, and when i put the nozzles right the poo will collect in one spot in the tank and i just suck that up

Exactly. The poop only piles up in 2 spots in my 210 with sand. I love it.

strange that everyone is so much in love with piles of poo

LOL

Use a heavier, larger grained sand. I use Leslie's Pool Supply 20-grade pool filter sand. It sinks back down pretty quick when disturbed and looks great. It's a bit high dollar at $12.99 a bag but well worth the extra $ imo. Also it's practically clean right out of the bag, just rinse a few time and it's ready to go. That alone is worth something.

Oh yeah and using a powerhead in the tank will make the poo gather in a dead spot or get sucked up your filters.
