Increased aireation to inverted vacuumed section by drilling 6 x 2mm holes on the water-line.A programmable timer initiates the vacuum pump for 2 minutes every hour. This is to complement the continuous pumped flow of oxygenated water from the open section.

The vacuum pump already services another aquarium but appears to have ample capacity for additional aquariums.

Very cool concept.

I've visted Eilat a few times. I love Eilat, a few years back I went to Jerusalem for a year of study. I took a weekend to backpack down there with friends. If I recall correctly it cost me 30nis (aprox 8 USD at the time) for a full day rental of snorkling gear. I was blown away at the beautiful reef and fish.

Hmm... I'm bound for a trip back to Israel soonish. Maybe I could visit!

Romaurie, I just had a quick thought about how to do water changes without the issues of the water coming out of the vacuum due to lower water levels.

Add valves to both ends of the pipe. Simply close the valves when doing water changes. Fish inside should have no issues surviving for a small period of time.

Heck I could see this as a way for transporting fish by catching them in the tube and closing the valves.

It's a little like the "Harley-Davidson" question.
If you have to ask, you wouldn't understand.
However, the original idea of joining 2 aquariums together and a fairly practical solution of how to do it was from Bio Elite of South Africa.
I have quoted his original text as to why it is beneficial to the fish in one of my posts.
Actually, the original idea goes back to Elizabethan England when tropical fish keeping first appeared. Some sketches of proposed aquariums showed a tunnel linking 2 aquariums together.

Water changes are fairly straight forward. As you syphon the water out from the lower aquarium the water from the upper tank flows into the lower tank until it closes the entrance on the water line. When you refill the lower tank leave the vacuum pump running so the water is drawn into the inverted section. If you do it "orally" you add a quantity of water to close to the upper level of the lower tank and then suck the air out.Jut keep topping up the lower tank.
