if he is gasping he might be not getting enough oxygen in the water, have a gill infection or parasite, salinity, PH, anything change with the tank recently?

water changes. add some large mexican turbo snails to take care of the algae. about 1 per 10 gallons. feed less. remove detrius, etc.
