What is the difference between the payara and the armatus? two different fish, or different name?

which is bigger?

payara refers to a few dif. species.
such a raphs, scombs, cynodons, redtails, scombs, and of course armatus.
armatus would be the biggest, most expensive and toughest species.

Youve been here enough to know how to use the search feature...hell just look at other topics on the first page in this forum and youd find your answer!

lol, i know NOTHING about armatus. Now, if you ask me about SA cichlids;)...plus threads allow many people to answer, unlike a pm. Don't know why I am getting bashed for this

Payara is like a nickname for the vampire tetras....as mentioned above. Used mostly to describe the Hydrolycus species.....Scomberoides Tatauaia and Armatus, but also to describe Rhaphiodon Vulpinus.

Want to see how big Armatus get in the wild? Google-image-armatus.
In the aquaria I believe the biggest is around 20 inches. I believe Mr. Goliathtigerman and R1Ridah both have one around this size.....and both still growing.

They are rare and expensive. I may be wrong but I don't think there is more than about 100 in the states.

Growth rate is insane. Over 2 inches a month when small. Slow down around 12.

Don't tolerate many tankmates.

Any specific questions you still need answered?

I just saw a 4 footer on google!!!

Thanks, I think that is about it for now

If you're looking for one River Wonders still had a few left last I heard. If you want one act NOW....don't wait as you may not have the oportunity again.

I waited almost a year to have the opportunity to purchase one.
