I really enjoy looking at the V. Indicus complex, it has a geographical map that competes that of V Salvator, the colors patterns and even sizes vary from Island to Island in the Indonesian archapealgo down to New Guinea and even a far out a Guam (introduced) but nonetheles there. Some of these animals dont even reach 30 inches while some Like Juxtindicus can reach and exceed almost 6foot. Some of these animals are super bright like V melinus and Jobiensis, some have morphological differences as well. Different colored tongues, some have eyestripes, some have evolved a nasal cavity that has gone to the top of the snout suggesting a more aquatic lifestyle, and a laterally compressed tail to further help justify that evolution.

Ill stop my rant, but it really is a great example of evolution amongst varanids looking at these various pictures and having the pleasure of now owning such an animal.

Cheers!

wow these are cool alex. What is the defining features of the animals from Sulawesi? Do they differ between animals on sulawesi at all, it looks like a big island, or at least areas that are quite far apart.

And goddamnit it's always sunny over by you.

Hey Adam, yes you are correct about the Sulawesi animals varying within the island. They do however differ, in color size and tongue color from some of the other locales of indicus in indo as well. Indicus even occurs in NT Aus.... talk about a huge range!

BTW it rained today lol.
