I remember your post in another thread about this silver... great job bring him back and he looks amazing compare to when you got him at 1st! Trying using fishing line, tie the shrimp and move it around when he comes towards it...I do this to my aro, at 1st she (Pepper) did bother with it, but with a little persistence he finally gave in...its been 1 wk now and eating shrimp with stuffed hiraki sticks. Hope this helps buddy...Good luck!!
I might try that but my arowana is a bit shy around me it sometimes eats from my hand but it still likes to eat when I walk away and go feed my other fish it's very shy and timid hardly shows aggression only towards the Angels once in a while it'll like intimidate them but no violence which is why I can have a peacful community tank with it. So I'll try doing fishing line and maybe try to find some earthworms somehow I heard those are good or someone who breeds dubia roaches or grasshoppers. My arowana also says giant mealworms sometimes

I think the top find are permanent damage on those two spots and the bottom just needs to be trimmed maybe when I have time to grow evenly but I'll wait till its older

So my silver arowana lately hasn't been taking its pellets as much as it used to. I assumed it was being stubborn, starved it a few days and then it started eating them again. A month has passed and it's back at it again. It loves crickets and it demolishes those but lately hasn't been eating much pellets. It's a year old and 13 inches. I'm currently in the process of making it a pond and I'm just wondering what other foods can I feed it. Lately I haven't fed it as much crickets cause I share them between the arowana, my two FH, and my leopard gecko. Plus crickets don't really fill it up anymore. I tried market shrimp, it bit then spit out. Tilapia is too expensive in my parents opinion so they won't let me feed it that. I used to have two types of pellets but one of them ran out a couple months ago. What can I feed it? My lfs don't really carry much variety of food and I never use feeder fish. It's also way to big for ghost shrimp and still too small for crayfish. Suggestions?

Here's a vid of it now (I know the tank is small I'm making it a pond it will be done by summer hopefully)
This is also an update on my rescued arowana for those that follow the progress of my arowana

In the my grow out there's my silver 5 Angels 2 Cory cats and 1 khuli loach
Preparing to build the pond should be done near summer cause I have school so not much time spent on building

Guys it's getting annoying that my 1 ft arowana is being picky about its food so often. I try variety the best I can but it doesn't like the market shrimp (even when I tie it to a fishing line and shake it) it's lately not eaten pellets and only has been eating crickets and mealworms (gut loaded) but that's not a good diet. What can I try to do I've been lately starving him and then he eats the pellets after a few days but after a couple of weeks it's back to being picky with its food. What should I do. I'm also struggling with convincing my parents to let me build the arowana a pond Whichc also fruatrates me. I'm running out of time the arowana is getting to big in its current tank and being too picky also.

Hey man its cause you are triggering his natural instinct with live food and not hunger. Take my advice or dont but it wouldn't hurt to check your nitrates, don't take offense but the aquarium looks undersized and under filtered for the bio load that is produced for that fish alone.

Give your arowana what it likes to eat most, in your case crickets and mealworms. Just stuff them with pellets inside. Your arowana will eat pellets without realizing it. This way it can eat its most likeable food and also the necessary nutrients additionally from pellets inside.

When starving technique does not work, this has worked for some at least.

cheers,

Ok I'll try that but the pellets are the same size as the crickets so I might have to break them or something
