How do you know how to pronounce binomial names (serious question)?

I only ever right them down (on mfk). Anyone got a link for pronounciation? Is it the same as latin?
There are at least a couple variations on how to pronounce them, but some people's "variations" are so far off they're unrecognizable. Most are Latin based and pretty much phonetic.

13-year old Walks into lfs and chats with the manager for 15 minutes about his fish, her fish, stupid customers, the 22 Mosquitofish fry he gave her last month. Then walks back to the fish tank section and gawks at new and old fish, taking cellphone pics, yet declines help from employees. tells 2 kids with a bowl to stop looking at the RTC as it will grow large enough to eat a dog. Distracts them when they then start looking at Gar, then Ocellaris.
finally decides he DOES want help and buys another Moss Ball.
Who is this?

I've seen this one a lot too, but not always dressed like that. Sometimes just average looking college kids.
They don't have to look like that but the majority of "tough guys" I saw looked like that while I was working.

THE FIRST TIMER

just happens to be in the shopping center at another store with there children and or friend...decides to kill some time, and go to the fish store. Has no intention on buying anything...just wondering around aimlessly... looking lost...picking up stuff...looking at fish "look at that ugly thing" and "looks that goldfish's brains are comming out" might even pick up a betta and a nice 20$ 1 cup hanging wall decor tank...probably not any food...

and then is staring at a tank for a minute and splurts out my favorite comment
"is that real" now she is either
A. looking at a eel or leaf fish or something odd...

But usually is B...

B. looking at a alligator bubbler that is burping out bubbles ...

ha ha i just want to say yes of course its real you should buy one let me bag it up for you that will be $200.00...
or
no stupid its plastic most alligators arent as big as my hand and have plastic tubing comming out of there ass....no thats not a leash

Haha, I'm not an owner, but I see that all the time. "I can get this food for half the price at Wal-mart"........."Ok, go do it...." With small stuff like that, I don't even bother trying to sell to them. I have no control whatsoever of the prices on almost everything we sell. Now, if it's an aquarium kit or something, it doesn't take much to sell them on how much better quality the brands we sell are compared to Wal-mart (the only other REALLY close by retailer that sells any aquarium stuff). Some people I just don't bother with. All I can tell them is "We're NOT Wal-mart."
