VASE (vace or vars) how do you say it?

my brother is stupid and thinks the american way to call it "VACE"
is right.
ive always said "VARS" i assumed it was like tomato (tomarto,tomayto)
that americans pronounce it differently/wrongly to conventional ENGLISH which is the language of england and america has developed its own way to pronounce certain words differently from other english speaking countrys

I say vase and my mom's says vaas. But, I'm a westcoaster and she's an eastcoaster. She is proud of her elocution and makes fun of mine. She always says that my relatives on the east coast will laugh when they hear me speak. But those are geographic differences in speach. If you want to be really confused by an american talk to a southernor or someone skilled in ebonics. Its like being in a foreign country altogether.
