VATF: How long would it last?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Great to hear that. :D

Besides keeping fishes, I think one of the best thing about this hobby is the interaction and encouragement we give to each other. :)

Just make sure the VATF stays safe with your Odoes. I am pretty sure their growth rate are slower.

I am doing the opposite of you at the moment - a lone and smaller Odoe amongst all the ATFs.

Looks marvellous only problem is it is probably about 14 hours drive from where I am. Our other native fish are fairly unremarkable in freshwater and in salt we have a bunch of tasty ones. Odoes and atfs are big on my want list for one day. For now I only have a 70 long that I need to fill. So one day

They're all pretty small still, so it's pretty alright. I hesitated because people said my atf would outgrow my tank in a year tops, so I can't see the growth rate being that slow, considering my Odoes are to be OK in a 180 for life :p

Those who said it would grow out of the tank that fast didn't mean by sheer size, but they felt it would need more swimming space, but look at DB has a flawless 18" tatf in a 180. It's more of what you feel is needed in the end

I echoed the above. The "extra" space perhaps can be created by having a power head or wavemaker?

I have about 9000L of current available right now. I'm not pushing it to the limits as to not tire my Odoes, but the ATF is enjoying it. I need to put a big log in the tank to give a non-current zone for the odoes before considering full flow.

It's been reported atf are more skittish with strong current. And odoes come from calm waters, they don't like current, if you have some that you're odoe is fine with and the atf enjoys I'd leave it as is.
