I need to setup a TMC V2 Vecton 600 UV sterilizer on my 120g tank.... currently i have 2 Fluval FX5's as filtration and have heard that for the best performance (killing parasites & bacteria) to run it with a flow rate between 600-1000 litres per hour.

The fluval FX5 output is around 2500 litres per hour so hooking it up to that is a no go... what other ideas do you guys have for an easy (mess free) connection of this UV to my tank setup?

Im thinking of getting a small cannister filter for this purpose but that would add more visible inlet and outlet pipe mess in my tank.

Hiya,
First off, any flowrates i've come across are from factory tested zero-headed no altitude runs and deffo no filter clogging buildup or maybe even filter media included

So with the usual buildup and lower flow from the fx5 (i have one of these so i know the flow can reduce)

Anyways, easiest way i can answer is this, it might help you find what i mean ...........

Imagine you place the uv just after the filter (follow what the product describes as the best placing though), so it's tank out-filter-uv-return to tank

T off from filter to uv then T back after uv, so flow has a choice of go through uv and a via route (hope this makes sense)

What this will do is allow a throuput easier than going through the uv, so the water flow through the uv is lesser than the easier route which is the more direct (less resistance, and water likes to go where it flows easiest)

I went down the blagdon koi pool uvc route, by chance the fx5 is the filter utilising that uvc lol

I think maybe Hydor External heater diagrams might show what i mean

Food for thought

Hmm, can't find the edit for some reason ..

Ignore the Hydor bit, just checked and they don't bypass as i thought, i was thinking of a rena smart heater with the inline attachment ;-)

Maybe the lines above work to give you an idea

thanks for the reply... I did a bit more research on those units...and for my size tank with the TMC V2 600 uv sterilizer, I should run it as low as 300 litres per hour in order for it to be affective against parasites, bacteria and algae... any faster and its only good for killing single cell algea.

I guess i could get a small 300 litre p/hour internal pump and push water through tubing to the uv and back to the tank, just seems like a lot of pipework and mess

I still havent bought a UV for the tank, so the question still stands... has anyone got a Vecton 600 attached to a fluval FX5?

How did you do it and what pipe/connectors did you use?
Can you use the standard ribbed FX5 pipe straight onto the Vecton unit or dosent it not fit properly?
