Venomous mentoring! (again)

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The hots permit here is actually very fair and completely attainable for people who are actually willing to put the time in, and if your not then you shouldn't have hots... same with how the roc permit was.....
the only thing with the venomous permit i disagree with is the display fee....if you plan to show them anywhere at all it's some ridiculous insurance fee... $10,000 or something like that

yeah it is a $10000 surety bond. I am not entirely sure what that means but I am pretty sure that you don't have to pay the $10000 up front or you get your money back eventually...

it might be there and atm but im just totally against permits. Im against gov intervention really.

To best understand my standpoint, you should look up the permit process here(in PA) to get an african serval.

For the most part, I agree with the libertarian point of view but when it comes to hots there needs to be SOME regulation. There are a bunch of crooked people who will sell a cobra to a 10 year old just to get some money. On the other hand, I understand that it is very difficult to get some permits (like the serval that I know you really want because you are a crazy old cat guy:screwy:) but what we are saying is that there needs to be a fair process involved before you can get something rare or endangered but keep it accessible to the public that prove their ability to care for said animal.

This is currently the case with Florida's venomous permit. It costs a bit of time and money but once you go through with it, you are allowed to keep them. It is a fair process. Sylvias and I are just saying that Florida's current system is very good and we just hope they don't mess it up like they did with the Reptiles of Concern law.

trust me, if i knew it would stay like it is down there i would support it. but we all know the gov cant leave well enough alone. having to be 18 yo is enough for me.

so that leaves me with the hard stance against permits.

ps im looking onto the permit i need. Its gonna be a freakin nightmare. I cant even find a way to get ahold of the people that issue the permit so i can figure out where to start the process. this is gonna suck:irked:
I prob wont be able to get my serval for 5 years if not more:irked:

why not leave PA??
Thats one of my main reasons for leaving fl....can't have retics..... and I want retics.... so getting out...

You can get anything in the world you want for the right amount of money and you can keep anything in the world you want with the right amount of secrecy. But I didn't say this of course...:grinno:

I am fully on-board with a reasonable permit system and the info I have about the Fl system makes me think that the current system is well within reason. I would like to see a similar program in KY but it isn't gonna happen anytime soon. For now I am stuck with basically watching a bunch of people disregard the laws and keeping them anyways while I want them but because I am a responsible (mostly) law abiding person I just get to want them.

I know MANY hot keepers in the state, some are the among the most responsible keepers I know and clearly possess the needed skill and respect to keep hots but must do so illegally. I also know some of the KY hillbillies who just want a hot for the thrill of it and are waiting to become a representative of Darwinian Evolution and a statistic to support not keeping hots when they get drunk and free hand their puff adder (seriously...I knew a guy who used to do this!)...
