I have a pair of Oscars that you can't possibly separate. They laid a batch of eggs which unfortunately, were eaten on the 3rd day by my evil catfish. They recently laid a 2nd batch of eggs, and after 5 days they remained in the tank, and I removed them due to a fungi growing on them. As I used the gravel vacuum, they both furiously attacked it. I have never seen them so aggressive. After the eggs were all removed, they stayed near their egg laying spot for a while. After about 10 minutes, they started doing the classic mating ritual. I have never seen them do this before, and was very pleased to see it. A lot of circling and lip locking. They did this for about 15-20 minutes.
Now, since they have laid 2 batches of eggs, and they have not hatched, I was starting to think they were both female. They are the same size, and same age, and I am having trouble venting them. I believe I have a male and a female, but am confused as to why the eggs haven't hatched yet. Perhaps they need a few tries before the male knows how to fertilize them?
Please feel free to give any advice or wisdom to me. I would especially love a picture of the vents. Thanks!
