So I have a flowerhorn that i'm not sure of the gender, so I want to vent it. I have looked all over for a site that shows how to vent Central American cichlids, and all that came up was African cichlids, so i'm wondering if there is a difference in species about what the vent will look like. Which would make venting a flowerhorn difficult because of all the different species used to make a flowerhorn.
How exactly do you vent cichlids? is there a basic guideline to go off of to tell the gender?

How big is the fish? Can you take a picture of the vent and post it? For the most part it is the same amongst all cichlids. Female big, round and shapes somewhat like a pear, the male is smaller and comes to a point, so to speak.

It's pretty accurate for me.
Never had a problem venting my fish.
Also you can tell a male from a female just based on how they act in the tank.

This i have tried, it spawned with a female JD, who always ate the eggs, so i cant tell if its a futile Female + female combo, or a case of infertile male, or if they were fertile, and the JD just ate them. I'll get pics next time i do a water change which will be tomorrow or wednesday or tonight, depending on if i finish my homework soon.
