Sounds like your mom still resents your dad and you are a conveinent target :screwy:
:iagree: u should kick her a*s jk but get out of her way my mom is like that 24/7 so ur not the only one

Some people feel that way, some people feel that way about birds and mammals as well, some people won't eat meat, oh well. Maybe next time you could say she has convinced you and then ask her where you can score some good weed with the money you will save. There are worse hobbies.

 Dammit guppy, dont say that !!! He might do it!!! :lol2:

Wow, your mom probably had a tough day at work! Sometimes, a little charm and caring like, maybe making her dinner or something. Is that kissing ass or just trying to make peace with yourself. This is Zen philosophy. I remember when my mom would just get mad because of a tough day, or not just getting her way, a little joke, and smile, a hug, makes her feel better., and I am at peace with myself. I guess I'm just like that, very forgiving.

When I was a teen my mom had me come in and introduce myself to her church group, I did and said "Hi! my name is Loren and I smoke marijuana!" then walked out, it did not go over well.
Seriously, tell her that the hobby teaches reliability and responsibility, and that all hobbies cost money but at least this one you can enjoy all the time.

Howdy,

It is amusing to see the immaturity in conflict solving of many of you who replied. Yeah, slap your mom. That's great advice. Answer rudely. Another good one. That's the perfect way to convince her to have respect for your hobby. Although I hope these advice were not serious, I think a few words of sense wouldn't hurt to go along with them.

I am not expecting anyone to agree publicly with me, especially not after what has been said. But when the computer is off and you're at home, eating a meal your mom has prepared for you. Maybe then you'll think of what I wrote.

Respect your parents and act as what you are: Young adults. Not babies. Think seriously about what your parents say, and you will maybe understand them better. Indeed, an aquarium is an expensive hobby. But there are other expensive hobbies which are much more detrimental, as stated correctly by guppy. Many fish are caught in the wild, others bred merely for the purpose of living in an aquarium. Take your mom to your tank and show her which fish were bred just as pets. Explain to her where they come from and talk to her nicely. You may be surprised, but being nice goes a long way. It completely takes the air out of her arguments. Much more so than blowing up does.

Don't get me wrong, I understand your position very well. I also lived at home and had fish. Venting is okay, and that's what friends and also this forum are for. But be respectful at home.

'' yeah sure son WHAT!!'', ''SMOKE WHAT'' ''I TOLD YOU TO STAY OUT OF MY TOOL BOX''....... but the funny thing is we never know the old man had it in his tool box either, we had it stashed in the celling tile's.. don't ask how mom found it but she did

Great point. The more they know about your hobby the more support they might lend to it. Case in point, my wife hates by motorcycle but loves the fish. She said I can get whatever I want if it keeps me off the bike.
